Description

The tour begins in parking lot 3 of Santiago Mountain Fountain. That parking lot is the closest to the Mirador Salto del Nervión. The floor is made up of compact zagor. This makes it difficult for wheelchairs to get dirty, as the irregularity of the floor causes the user great vibrations. In addition, as a result of the erosion caused by water runoff, the trash rink has been decomposed and large holes have been formed that, when it rains, become large wells.
The track passes through a beautiful landscape. It consists mainly of hayedos, karstic landscapes, etc. After a pleasant walk, we arrive at the Nerves Jump Viewpoint. If there's water, we'll find a 300-foot waterfall.

Highlight

  • It's a space of great landscape interest.
  • Special Protection Zone
  • Geological
  • Geomorphological and floristic
  • Region of Orduña (Bizkaia) and Amurrio (Álava).
  • The waterfall that forms the river Nervión when it carries water.

How to get here

You can only access Mount Santiago by car or by hiring guided tours.
From Bizkaia, look for the direction of Orduña-Burgos on the BU-556.
From Burgos, look for Berberana on road BU-556.

Route

Puerto de Orduña Berberana (Biscay)

Section 1

From the Santiago Fountain parking lot to the Mirador Salto del Nervión

Not suitable for people with reduced mobility (PRM)

The pavement on that stretch is made up of rubbish compacted by erosion caused by water runoff. There are quite a few large holes that should be avoided. During the rainy season, these holes are covered with water, and some deep puddles are formed. Because the pavement is very irregular, it can cause great vibrations to people who use a wheelchair, baby carts, etc. However, the track is wide, so you can reach the wheelchair viewpoint, the wheelbarrow, etc.
The part passes through a very lush and well-preserved forest of hayedos, karstic landscapes, etc., such as the statue dedicated to the shepherd.
The stretch begins at the Santiago Mountain Park House. There we shall see the birth of the River Nervión, and how it disappears as it enters a cave.
