Description

The Getxo Flysch route starts opposite the Aixerrota windmill, and a few metres from the route start, there are wheelchair accessible WCs in a car park opposite the Aixerrota windmill. The route, which is wide, regular and accessible due to reduced pavement kerbs, starts with views of Abra (Gran Bilbao Port). It has information panels none of which are adapted. The route begins changing from a comfortable flat style to one with a prolonged gentle upward slope. Rest areas before and after Galea Fortress, a point of cultural historical interest on the route. Leaving behind the Galea Fortress, we immediately reach a rest area overlooking the sea, and then start descending with a slight yet comfortable slope, to reach another large rest area overlooking the sea, with non-adapted information panels, fountain and benches. At this point we will have walked 2km from the starting point by the Aixerrota windmill. We can still see the sea on our left, the ground we’re walking on changes as we advance. A little further along, we come to a short steep incline. Throughout the route we continue coming across interesting information panels yet none of them adapted. Alternate stone benches make the sea more entertaining while offering visitors a rest. The Getxo Flysch offers us views of the Bizkaian coast, with upward and downward slopes, the ground is correct with an extension of nearly 5km. Leaving behind the downward slope (non-adapted access), which would take us to Aizkorri beach. With the end of the route in sight, at approx. 25m from Aizkorri beach car park, i.e., the end of the Getxo flysch route. It has no public wheelchair accessible WCs. At 200m from the car park, and at the end of the route we have a bus-stop (not adapted).

From the Aixerrota car park to the Azkorri beach car park

Suitable for people with reduced mobility (PRM)

The Getxo Flych route, with its more than 4 and a half kilometers of distance (one way), and its easy access, is a very valid option to make some changes in it and to be able to transform it into an adapted route. With a very appropriate floor throughout the path that makes it up, non-slip and with no steep ramp. Sea views in more than 90 percent of the route, railing in almost the entire route, different viewpoints, rest areas, fountain in one of them and adapted public services in the parking lot that is located a few meters from the starting point. The final point, the Azkorri beach car park, lacks adapted public services, but there is a bus stop 100 meters away (not adapted).
